ICF / Gomà-Camps builds a new logistics centre in Vilaverd

03 December 2024

This new logistics facility, which has received funding from the ICF, will boost the company's competitiveness and, at the same time, contribute to improving efficiency and reducing environmental impact, aligning with the company's values.

The company Gomà-Camps, located in La Riba, with more than 265 years of history and specialising in the manufacture and marketing of tissue paper, is building a new semi-automatic logistics centre in Vilaverd (Tarragona) with a surface area of 12,000 m².

The construction of this new logistics centre will optimise the company's transport flow, reducing the distance in the movement of goods by more than 20 km compared to today. This investment is a step forward in Gomà-Camps' commitment to sustainability, minimising environmental impact and improving efficiency to boost competitiveness.

"We have placed great emphasis on sustainable design, following the BREEAM certification criteria, and we have installed a solar self-consumption system that allows us to considerably reduce the environmental impact and contribute to energy self-sufficiency," says Laia Gomà-Camps, general manager.

The investment for the new logistics centre in Gomà-Camps is 12 million euros; 70% of it has been made with the company's own funds and the remaining 30% has been financed by Bankinter and the Catalan Institute of Finance (ICF).

The ICF's strategic line is the financing of industrial investments and the promotion of the green transition and, in this sense, the CEO of the ICF, Vanessa Servera, explains that "the public promotion bank of the Generalitat de Catalunya exists precisely to promote industrial projects and investments that advance towards an increasingly decarbonised economy, betting on technology and innovation, as is the case with this investment by Gomà-Camps".

The new warehouse has a capacity of 12,000 pallets, including conventional racking locations with picking spaces for 2,100 pallets and multi-rack areas with capacity for 9,900 pallets. In addition, it is equipped with a digitised system that allows it to be managed automatically and reinforces Gomà-Camps' commitment to continuous improvement in its processes.

"With this project, we contribute to the revitalization of our region with the development of sustainable infrastructures. At Gomà-Camps we are clear that growth and sustainability have to go together to guarantee a future that is more respectful of the environment", adds Laia Gomà-Camps.

The new logistics facilities will also have spaces for offices and services, as well as a total of six operational docks. The lighting system has been designed to make the most of natural light. In addition, it meets the highest safety standards, including a fire protection system designed for a risk level 8
