Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego has opened a representative office in Kyiv

26 February 2025

The main goal of the new representative office is to support projects and investments financed by the European Commission for the reconstruction and modernization of Ukraine. The BGK representative office also serves as a contact hub for businesses and institutions, providing market insights and facilitating their operations.

On the occasion of the opening of the representative office in Kyiv, Jarosław Dąbrowski, a member of the management board of Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego – the Polish development bank – met with Sergiy Nikolaychuk, deputy governor of the National Bank of Ukraine. The discussion focused on the state of the Ukrainian banking sector, financing the future reconstruction and modernization of Ukraine, and the role of the Polish development bank in this process.

"The active engagement of Polish businesses and institutions in Ukraine’s reconstruction and modernization presents a mutually beneficial opportunity, strengthening regional partnerships that will contribute to lasting stability. Supporting the operations of Polish businesses will be a key strategic goal of BGK's representative office in Kyiv."

BGK is one of the institutions implementing financing from the Ukraine Facility – an EU instrument aimed at attracting public and private investments for the reconstruction and modernization of Ukraine. The funds from the Ukraine Facility create opportunities for the active participation of Polish businesses in this process.

"I am grateful to Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego for its support of Ukraine and efforts to intensify our cooperation. We are pleased to see that despite geopolitical challenges, turbulence, and uncertainty, our Polish partners continue to support the Ukrainian economy with new investment projects and that they see their future here, in Ukraine."

Sergiy Nikolaychuk, deputy governor of the National Bank of Ukraine

"Poland is a natural hub for investments in the reconstruction and modernization of Ukraine. The European Union is allocating substantial funds for investments in our neighbouring country, which is also a great opportunity for Polish entrepreneurs. BGK's goal is to lay a solid foundation for the presence of Polish businesses in the Ukrainian market. This is why we decided to open our representative office in Kyiv."

In addition to implementing the Ukraine Facility, BGK's representative office will serve as a contact hub for Polish entrepreneurs and institutions, providing them with market insights and supporting their operations. The office will represent the bank in dealings with Ukrainian financial and governmental institutions, as well as businesses along the Dnieper. Its mission will also include fostering a positive environment for Polish enterprises. The launch of the representative office will enhance financial support opportunities for Polish businesses carrying out economic projects and operating in Ukraine.

BGK's Kyiv branch is headed by Piotr Antkiewicz, a manager with over 20 years of experience in financial institutions. From 2021 to 2024 he served as vice president of Inter-Risk Ukraine, a subsidiary of PKO BP Bank based in Kyiv, where he oversaw business development, sales and operations.

Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego has previously supported Polish enterprises operating in Ukraine and has been actively involved in strengthening the Ukrainian economy. Since 2024, the bank has been providing export guarantees for Polish companies, backed by re-guarantees from Ukrainian banks. In the same year, BGK also launched a technical assistance program aimed at employees of state-owned banks and Ukrainian students interested in development banking. The program was designed for young professionals from state-owned banks (Oschadbank, Ukreximbank, and Ukrgasbank) as well as master's students from the Kyiv School of Economics. It included an internship at BGK, a postgraduate study program in cooperation with Warsaw SWPS University, meetings with representatives of Polish ministries, national and international business institutions and organizations, as well as participation in business events related to the development of Ukraine and Central Europe.

Apart from the newly opened office in Kyiv, Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego has representative offices in Brussels and Frankfurt, actively supporting Polish economic diplomacy and Poland’s international economic relations.
