Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego has signed an investment loan agreement for €21.5 million with Italian company Albergo Alexandra Sarl for the rebuilding and modernization of a hotel in the very center of Rome. The investor is the Molo Group, owned by the Słomiński family, which has already successfully completed several hotel projects in the past thanks to financing from the Polish development bank.
BGK has granted a loan for the reconstruction and modernization of the Alexandra Hotel. It is located in a building built in the early 20th century, which functioned as a hotel until the end of 2023. An unquestionable advantage is its location in the very center of the Italian capital - on Via Vittorio Veneto street - in close proximity to the subway station (50 m) and popular tourist attractions such as the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain (10-minute walk). After reconstruction, the hotel will be ready to welcome guests for the holiday season in 2026. According to Euromonitor's ranking, Rome was the fourth most visited city in the world in 2024.
The hotel will operate under the Vignette brand, (InterContinental Hotels Group (“IHG”) brand). Vignette is a new IHG brand being launched since 2021 - there are currently about 20 hotels operating under this brand. They are primarily located in prestigious locations of major cities. Owned by the Słomiński family, a hotel in Liverpool also operates under this brand.
Through the financing granted for the reconstruction and modernization of the Alexandra Hotel in Rome, BGK is supporting the internationalization of Polish capital. In addition, we are also indirectly supporting Polish exports, as the hotel will be furnished with Molo Group equipment manufactured in Poland. This is already our next financing in the hotel industry for Polish investors, after previous investments in hotels in Edinburgh, Luton, Budapest, Zakynthos or the Caribbean islands of Turks&Caicos.
Hubert Czupryński, foreign transactions expert at Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego
A hotel in the heart of the Eternal City has been one of our strategic goals for years. Our family is very connected to Italy. Thanks to its central location and the Vignette brand, the hotel will offer exceptional conditions, and the rooftop terrace with a beautiful panoramic view of all of Rome will attract many guests. At this point we would like to thank very much the Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego for once again showing us trust by enabling the continued rapid growth of the Molo Group.
Łukasz Słomiński, CEO of Molo Group
The investor in the Rome hotel, the Molo Group, was founded nine years ago by the Słomiński family and owns 13 hotels in Europe and the Caribbean. In addition to owning hotels, the Słomiński family has for years been involved in the production of hotel modules based on its own technology and furniture for the hospitality industry. Furnishings produced by Słomiński family companies can be found in hundreds of hotels around the world.
For BGK, this is the second financing completed in Italy.
