MFB’s Chairman & CEO appointed member of the Board of Directors of the European Investment Bank

At the recommendation of Márton Nagy, Dr. Levente Sipos-Tompa, Chairman & CEO of MFB Hungarian Development Bank, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the European Investment Bank (EIB). As a result, the Hungarian State will now be represented by one of the key lenders to domestic businesses, MFB, while further strengthening the latter’s co-operation with one of the world’s largest multilateral credit institutions.


The members of the EIB’s Board of Directors are nominated by its Board of Governors consisting of the ministers responsible for economic and financial affairs of the 27 Member States of the European Union. The Board of Directors is one of the key bodies of the EIB providing the strategic management of the bank, which, among other things, approves the bank’s loan and guarantee transactions, conducts fundraising activities and oversees the operations of the EIB as well as of its Management Committee.

At the meeting of the Board of Governors of 16 June, at the recommendation of Minister for Economic Development Márton Nagy it was decided that Dr. Levente Sipos-Tompa, Chairman & CEO of MFB, should represent Hungary in one of the key forums of the EIB over the next five-year period. The appointment provides an opportunity for the MFB, as a development institution, to effectively support Hungarian economic development efforts.
