Costa Rica - 87th market where BGK supports Polish exporters

14 May 2024

The list of countries where Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego provides financial support to Polish companies abroad is steadily growing. Costa Rica is another country that can be counted among this group.

Supporting Polish enterprises in foreign operations is one of the elements of BGK's mission. The Polish development bank finances exports to countries described as safe, as well as to high-risk but promising markets. Costa Rica is among such countries.

BGK recently issued a guarantee securing the proper performance of a contract concluded by a Polish exporter for a buyer from Costa Rica. The value of the guarantee was more than USD 580,000.

"The most important message for Polish entrepreneurs interested in supporting exports and expansion is that we follow Polish companies, regardless of the industry or location of the project. Our support for the project implemented in Costa Rica is the best example of this. With our actions we strengthen the position of Poland and Polish companies abroad" - said Feliks Kobierski, chief relations expert in trade finance at Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego.

So far, trade cooperation between Poland and Costa Rica has been relatively small, which is mainly due to the large geographical distance between the two countries and the small size of the market as is Costa Rica (an area of 51,100 square kilometers). According to International Trade Centre data for 2023, Poland has a trade surplus regarding Costa Rica - we export goods there worth EUR 31.1 million, with imports at EUR 9.5 million.
