The flats will be intended for young people and the elderly and will be managed jointly with the City Council of the capital of the Alt Empordà region
The Catalan Institute of Finance (ICF) has granted a loan of 3.8 million euros to the SociHabitat Foundation to finance the purchase and renovation of a building of 42 social and affordable rental homes in Figueres. The flats, located on Lasauca street, will be aimed at young people and the elderly and will be managed jointly with the City Council of the capital of Alt Empordà region.
The project involves the rehabilitation of a property that had been in disuse since the economic crisis of 2007 and that, from now on, will aim to improve access to housing in the center of Figueres. In addition, with the renovation works of the building, an attempt will be made to expand its capacity by four more floors to 46 homes.
The purchase has been made by first refusal and withdrawal through the ICF Social Housing Acquisition line that allows social entities to develop housing programs in a continuous and stable way over time, at a lower cost than a usual rent. This operation also has a financial cost discount from the Housing Agency of Catalonia.
The new facility promoted by the SociHabitat Foundation will consist of a space on the ground floor dedicated to the training offer for adults to improve the employability and skills, emotional and social development of the most disadvantaged groups. The building will also have another office space for entities of the municipality.
In total, since 2018, the ICF has allocated 224.3 million euros to finance projects for the acquisition and promotion of social rental housing, making 2,834 social housing units possible in Catalonia. This is indicated by the latest data collected by the financial institution of the Generalitat, corresponding to the month of May 2024.
